Weekend Rides
Saturday, I decided to put the flasher on the back of the bike before I rode down to Wheelie Fun to meet whoever showed for the 8:00 ride. It was still pretty dark and cloudy when I left at 7:45 so I thought it might be a good idea to make sure the cars could see me. The streets were wet with lots of puddles from all the rain we had overnight. I got to the end of our street and turned around to go back for full neoprene shoe covers. The temps were in the upper 40s so I didn't expect a cold ride but I hate wet feet on a ride. I met Jon on the way to the shop. He had got there a little early and decided to ride my direction. We went down to the shop where Jim, Dick and Dave were waiting. They said they were wondering if I was going to show since it was a few minutes after 8:00 when Jon and I got there and I'm never late for the ride.
We had the usual plan of riding out and be back to the shop at 9:30 so that Dave could open at 10:00 and to pick up anyone who didn't want to start at 8:00. A light rain started as soon as we left and continued until we got back to the shop at 9:30. The rain must have kept everyone else inside because no one else showed for the second half of the ride. Jim, Dick, Jon and I headed out to finish our ride. We were dry for the next 2 1/2 hours and it warmed up a bit. In the end, I had nearly 70 miles on a day I probably would not have ridden if I had not committed to meet the other guys. Its so much easier to ride in bad conditions when you have someone to suffer with you. Kara had come down in the afternoon to go baby clothes shopping with Karma. I met them at the Montgomery Inn for dinner. The resturant claims to have "the worlds greatest ribs" but I was really disappointed. I've had better.
Sunday, I rode back down to Wheelie Fun to meet a group at 8:30. When I got there, no one seemed to be in a big hurry to start the ride. Eight of us finally rolled out at almost 9:00. I felt really tired and definitely would not have ridden if I had not committed to be there. My legs just felt very heavy but apparently I was riding better than I felt because Dave made a comment on how well I was riding. I cut off a little early as I had to be home by 11:30 so that I could get cleaned up to meet the kids for lunch at 1:30 in Grove City. I ended the ride with exactly 50 miles.
