Davis Phinney Foundation Ride
I did the Sunflower Revolution Ride for the Davis Phinney Foundation on October 15. It was a great ride for a great cause. Davis Phinney was there of course, as was Wayne Stetina, former US national champion and 7-11 team member. It was a cold morning the day of the ride but the quick pace of the ride warmed everyone pretty fast. The last 10 miles got real fast as Stetina picked up the pace. There were three or four of us trading hard pulls at the front when I hit a pothole and flatted a couple of miles from the end. I heard I missed the excitement of Phinney and Stetina blowing through a stop sign and passing cars on the short downhill back into town. After the ride, I met up with the Beers 4 Gears group for a couple of excellent home brews. I can't think of a better way to end the ride.
When I mentioned to a few people that I was doing the ride, their comments were about how expensive it was to register, $80. Come on, for $80 you get to donate to a good cause and ride with two former national champions and Tour De France riders. People who will spend thousands on a bike, bulk at $80 for a charity ride?
