We had to have our Lab, Corgan,
put down a couple of weeks ago. He had not been eating much for a couple of weeks and was losing a lot of weight. I finally called the vet and took him over to have him checked. I took him over on a Friday morning. The vet wanted to take some blood samples had keep him over-night to watch him. The vet called me on Saturday morning to tell me the blood test showed he was in complete kidney failure and there was nothing we could do for him. He said he wasn't going to get any better and the best thing we could do was to put him down. He wanted to know if we wanted to come over to say good-bye. I talked to Karma and we decided we couldn't do it. I felt a little bad about that but the good-bye would be for us and not him. We just couldn't do it. I'll miss that dog.
Karma is back from her trip to Mexico City. She was there for five days to attend a rowing camp. She said the had a good time. She rowed on the same course used for the '68 Summer Olympics.
The training on the bike has been going well. I have been able to get on the road two or three days plus a couple of days on the trainer during the week and then another day on road for a long ride during the weekend. In other words, I'm on the bike 5 to 7 days a week. The weather has been great for February. We have had a few really cold weekends but we seem to get a few of 40 degree days during the week when I can get outside for a training ride.
Last Saturday was just too cold and windy to ride outside. 20 degrees and 20 mph winds were too much for me. I ended up doing two hours on the trainer Saturday afternoon. I watched some Olympics and listened to some AC/DC and G&R on the headphones to get through it. I climbed off the bike just before I went completely mad.
Dr. Jon call Sunday to see if I would be interested in a ride in the afternoon. I met him at his house at about 2:00. No wind but it was only 25 degrees. We ended up riding about 2 1/2 hours. We were getting pretty cold by the time we got back to his house.
I'm planning to do my first race of the season on Saturday. A flat road race. I have a lot of miles in for this time of year but I'm not sure I'm really ready to race. I'll give it a try and see how it goes.
We leave for San Diego in two weeks. Looking so forward to some long ride in warm sunshine.
