Vandorvorts Corner RR

I'm finally feeling a lot better after 2 full weeks of being sick. I still don't think I'm 100%. I still have a bit of a cough, but at least I don't feel like I'm dying. (Exaggeration for sure but as I said before I don't do sick very well).

I managed a lot of time on the bike last week and was really looking forward to racing on Sunday. Sunny and mid-60s...finally a chance to ride in shorts and short sleeves. The course was just over 8 miles around, mostly flat, with one short steep rise (not long enough to actually call it a hill). I think we redeemed ourselves, as a team after last week's fiasco. The Walker Homes team had someone in the moves that looked dangerous or were on the front bringing back the breaks where we were not represented. Unfortunately, we missed the last move off the front with about 6 miles to go. Three rides went off the front on the rise. Rob and Todd were both cramping and I was just out of position to follow. Rob and I made our way to the front and started working to bring the break back to the field. Rob took a big pull that got us close enough to make me think I might be able to jump across. I was getting close but needed just a little help. I turned around to see if anyone was there to take a turn and saw Isiah on my wheel. He wouldn't come through, as his teammate Blair was one of the guys in the break. I just couldn't quite get there on my own. The field came back to us and with three miles to go, resigned itself to a sprint for fourth. I tried to follow the Dayton guys to the front in the last 500 meters but my legs were pretty dead from the efforts of the last lap. I rolled across the line in the middle of the field. Congratulations to Blair on his win.
