I think the team email discussion, about the OVR Lynchburg Road Race, started on Saturday morning. No one was willing to commit to racing due to the weather forecast. We all were taking a wait and see attitude toward racing on Sunday.
What to do? Hope the TV weather geeks have gotten it all wrong and we would wake up to sunny skies and 60 degrees. Of course the weather geeks were spot on and we woke to rain and 40 degrees. In years past, I might have said damn the cold and wet, I planned to race and I'm racing...but not today. Have I become soft as I have gotten older? I doubt it. I think I have a bit more common sense and become a bit less stubborn. I think I can look at racing with a little more objectivity when it come to riding in certain conditions. If an event is important event for the team, I will be there, regardless of the weather. It wasn't important to the team. I didn't race.
I did get out for a few hours on Saturday morning. It was a cool blustery day with the clouds spitting a few drops of rain now and then. The 15 mph wind was out of the west southwest, so I zigged zagged all over to avoid spending a lot of time riding directly into the wind. I spotted one of the sponsor's signs near Sunbury. Glad to see it said sold on top.
