The Week in Training

The weather was pretty bad on Sunday...lots of wind and snow (hey, its southwest Ohio, 4" is a lot of snow). No way I was going to ride outside. I'll ride in pretty bad weather but the snow made the roads too dangerous for a bike. I knew I could handle it, I just wasn't sure about the cars. I did manage an hour and half on the trainer. Time went pretty quick. I had the Bears-Saints game on the TV and the IPod blaring music straight into my skull. Whatever works.

I did the couch potato thing on Monday...no trainer, no stretching, no nothin'.

I couldn't face riding trainer on Tuesday. It "looked" warm outside so I decided get out and ride in the late afternoon. I had work to get done but I promised myself I would finish it when I got back from the ride...right. It was cold but the wind was the real killer. I'll ride in the cold, rain and pretty much anything as long as I feel like the roads are safe. The wind is one thing that really makes me think twice about riding. Of course I over-dressed. I was nice and warm for the first 20 minutes and then sweating like a pig and then freezing. I left at 3:45, thinking I could get 2 hours in before it started to get dark. I ended up riding an hour and 45 minutes. I got cold toward the end of the ride, not just from all the sweat but also because the sun was going down and it was really getting colder.

I did the usual trainer/roller ride at Wheelie Fun Wednesday night. They had a Spinerval video playing but no one was really taking the workout too seriously. I would do a couple of the intervals and then skip a couple. My legs felt a little tired from Tuesday's ride anyway.

On Thursday, I did 20 minutes on Karma's Concept2 erg and then a very easy 30 minute spin on the trainer. I even managed to do 20 minutes of stretching. I watched UFC Fight Night while I was on the trainer. Not sure what it is about it but I love to watch it when it on. Nothing like watching two grown men beat the crap out of each other. The last bout had a former Ohio State wrestler fighting. He took a nasty kick to the head and was out before he hit the canvas. They never did show him getting up and never even mentioned his condition when the show was over. He looked to be in pretty bad shape.

That's gonna leave a mark...

Hi
I saw you row the Concept2 rower.
I run an indoor rowing studio here in Costa Mesa. Did you row the C2 with "slides"?
All the best,
XENO
