Turks and Caicos Islands
Island sunrise...

One of the highlights of the trip was watching the Ohio State - Michigan game at a bar in Provo (GO BUCKS!!). We were really worried about being able to watch the game. The TV in our condo had Direct TV but none of the American networks. On game day, we went in search of a bar that would be showing American football on a Saturday afternoon. We decided to try Bambooz Sportsbar. Hey, its a sports bar, they have to be showing the game, right? We go to the bar and ask the bartender if they will be showing the game. With a heavy British accent, she says they will have the game on one of the TVs but, if they can get the rugby game (I didn't ask which rugby game), there will be no sound for the football game. As it turned out, they couldn't get the rugby game and we had the sound for our game. The bar was a lot of fun. We met a New Zealander, who it turns out lives at the condo complex where we were staying. He loved it when I told him I thought rugby players were tougher than American football players. We talked to a loud fun group of French-Canadian construction workers who came in for a few beers. One of them invited us back to watch a UFC fight later and to their Grey Cup party the next day. Unfortunately, we didn't make it back to the bar for either.

After being off the bike for 9 days, I am ready to get back on and start training for the 2007 racing season.

We are back from 8 days of beach and beer on the Turks and Caicos Islands. We rented a condo at the Northwest Point Resort on the island of Providenciales. The beaches are beautiful and still relatively undeveloped when compared to a place like Cancun. The resort is on the Northwest side of the island, miles from anywhere. It was not what most people think of when they hear "resort". It was a very nice condo complex but not an all inclusive. There was a bar and resturant onsite but past that, you are pretty much on your own. I would recommend it for someone who likes to sit on the beach or by the pool and relax all day. The snorkling has to be some of the best in the Caribean but personally, I can only do so much of it. We were there for 8 days...5 days would have been just right.
