We're back from nine days in Costa Rica. We spent a few days in the Arenal Volcano area doing some canyoning, rappelling, zip lines and volcano watching. I had considered trying to setup a day or two of mountain biking around the volcano but it rained off and on, which would have made for some real muddy riding...no thanks.

After our time at Arenal we drive southwest to the Gulf of Nicoya and took the ferry to the Nicoya Peninsula and drove to the small surf town of Santa Teresa. We spent a couple of days hanging out, doing walks on the rocky beach and in the jungle. We had a couple of encounters with monkeys on one of our hikes. One group of monkeys tried to maneuver themselves over us so they could pee on us from the trees. Luckily, they weren't successful.

After a couple of days in Santa Teresa we took the ferry back across the gulf and headed to the town of Alajuela. We spent a few days checking out the villages in the area and spending time at the La Paz waterfalls.

The people were very friendly. The food was OK . I did get tried of the casado (beans, rice, salad, egg, fried plantain, banana and some meat). Great trip.
