After last Saturday's ride in the rain and brush with hypothermia, I got out on Sunday morning for a birthday ride (I only sang Happy Birthday to Me once during the ride). It was about 15 degrees warmer and a lot drier then Saturday's ride, very nice for January. I got in a good three hour ride and got to enjoy birthday lasagna and cake with the family...Happy Birthday to me.
I hit the gym at lunch time on Monday to lift a few weights. I had a good training partner who helped me with the exercises and made sure I used correct form but unfortunately, he has moved to a new job and can't help me with lunch time workouts. I'm left alone to try to motive myself and try to follow the tips he's given to me.
I rode the torture device I keep in the basement on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. I managed about 75 minute of easy spinning on both sessions and another trip to the gym on Wednesday. I felt pretty drained all week but Thursday was definitely the worst day of the week. I considered leaving work early due to the nagging headache and general lethargy I felt all day. I managed to stick it out before heading home to a couple of Guinness and the couch for the evening.
Friday had me feeling much better and I even half enjoyed a 60 minute trainer session while watching 2007 Ronde Van Vlaanderen highlights on cycling.tv. The days are getting noticeably longer and it shouldn't be too long before I can get out on the road in the evening before dark.
