Heuston Woods and Lynchburg
Its been hard to keep this updated over the last couple of weeks. We're still house hunting, Kara just had her baby, I have a new department manager at work, the yard needs mowed and I'm still getting good time on the bike. By the time I have time to update the blog, all I really want to do is lay on the couch, watch TV and veg out.
Racing has been going OK. With everything going on, I'm pretty much only going to do the Ohio Valley races this Spring. I'd like to do some other races, maybe Team Columbus stuff, but I don't think I can fit it in right now. I'm looking forward to racing the crits in June and July.
I'm tied for 5th in the Cat 3 OVR series. My placings have not been that great but I've been consistent. I was 10th at Heuston Woods on March 25. Three riders were off the front so the field was sprinting for fourth. I kept trying to find a way through but every time I thought I had a clear ride to the line, it would close up.
I placed 9th at Lynchburg on April 1. We had everything, in the way of weather...wind, rain and sunshine. The 3 race started fast. Eventually, a group of 6 got away and our team missed the move. The 3 field caught the 1-2 field which made for a bit of a mess. The egos of a couple of Cat 1-2s wouldn't let the Cat 3s pass through. They kept mucking thing up whenever we tried to move through and continue our race. With just over 2 laps to go, I followed a surge by a Darkhorse guy on the one "hill" on the course. We opened a big gap and eventually two riders from Dayton bridged to us. The four of us worked it hard for the next two laps (16 miles) to stay in front of the field. What we did not know was the rest of the 3 field had been disqualified for center line violation. I was pretty cooked and ended up 3rd in our sprint and 9th in the race.
